FG leader pays tribute to late TD
Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny today paid tribute to former party TD and senator Larry McMahon.
Mr Kenny extended his sympathies to the family of the former Dublin South TD, who died at the age of 78.
“On behalf of the entire Fine Gael Party, I send our deepest condolences to the family of the late Larry McMahon, who passed away last night,” he said.
“During his long career as a public representative, Larry McMahon served his constituents with great commitment, both in the Oireachtas and at local authority level.
“He will be warmly remembered by the people of Tallaght in particular for the tremendous work he did on behalf of the community over three decades.”
Mr McMahon sat as a TD between 1970 and 1981 and later served as a senator, while holding a seat on Dublin County Council for 30 years.
“At national level, both as a Dáil deputy and subsequently as a senator, Larry McMahon was a popular and hardworking member of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party for many years,” Mr Kenny said.
“He was a man of deep Christian conviction who was never afraid to express his own strong views.
“I last met Larry following the untimely death of his beloved wife, Ursula, last year. I send my very deepest sympathies to his family on the loss of a second parent in such a short space of time.
“May he rest in peace.”
