Three questioned over murder at party

Two women were questioned tonight about the murder of a builder stabbed after a Valentine’s Day party.

A man was also held by detectives investigating the killing of Stephen Robinson, 39, in Co Fermanagh.

The victim was attacked at his home on Cullaghmore Road, Irvinestown.

Police were called just before 3.30am today.

It is believed a row flared after a party in the area earlier in the evening.

Mr Robinson, who was separated from his wife, had lived at the address for several years.

Friends revealed the victim’s family have had a troubled past.

One brother, Derek Robinson, 50, is a former Royal Ulster Constabulary Inspector who was jailed for corruption.

He was convicted in 2001 after a major undercover sting operation in the mid 1990s.

The RUC officer, who had a sideline as a car dealer, admitted a string of offences, including clocking car mileages, obtaining property by deception and perverting the course of justice.

Another brother, Leslie, was killed in a car crash just outside Irvinestown a number of years ago.

“They have had their problems,” a neighbour said.

“Stephen was well known and didn’t seem to have any enemies.

“He had his own business, although he may have worked for someone more recently.”

Detectives, who are treating the murder as domestic, arrested a couple after the attack. They later detained another woman.

The Ulster Unionist MLA for the area, Tom Elliott, told how locals were stunned by the murder.

He said: “It has caused shock among the community.

“It’s a great tragedy for the family.”
