Harney defends decision to contest damages claims

The Tánaiste and Minister for Health, Mary Harney, has defended the Government's decision to contest claims for compensation arising out of the illegal nursing home charges scandal.

Opposition parties have attacked Ms Harney over the matter after obtaining details of the defence that the State is planning to mount in one compensation case.
