Prisoners in Irish jails will soon be able to vote in national elections as the government is drawing up new legislation that will give the State's 3,200 prison inmates a postal ballot.

Prisoners in Irish jails will soon be able to vote in national elections as the government is drawing up new legislation that will give the State's 3,200 prison inmates a postal ballot.

They will be registered to vote in the constituency of their former residence before they were sent to jail.
