Dublin Port Tunnel set to worsen congestion on M50
The opening of the Dublin Port Tunnel is reportedly set to cause significant extra congestion on the already gridlocked M50 motorway.
Reports this morning said National Toll Roads, the company that operates the Westlink toll bridge, had admitted that no measures were in place to cater for the influx of trucks that the Port Tunnel will cause.
NTR chairman Jim Barry also reportedly admitted that truckers would have difficulties getting on to the motorway in the first place because of gridlocked interchanges.
This morning’s reports said the M50 was already handling more vehicles that the notorious M25 around London, which has been dubbed the world’s biggest car-park.
