One in Four seeks moves to strengthen children’s rights

The One in Four organisation has called for constitutional changes to strengthen children's rights and give young people more legal protection from abuse.

The support group for child abuse victims made the call in a submission to the Oireachtas committee on health and children today.

The committee is discussing the findings of the Ferns Report into clerical child sex abuse in Co Wexford.

One in Four director Colm O'Gorman, who was a victim of abuse in the Ferns Diocese, said today that constitutional change was needed to protect children into the future.

"That amendment must reflect the rights of children to live free from abuse and exploitation and the duty of the State to safeguard children from harm," he said.
