According to media reports over the past two days, the Director of Public Prosecutions has instructed gardaí not to prosecute people for possessing small amounts of the drug, but to caution them instead.

Mr McDowell and Mr Conroy are expected to discuss the issue following the official opening of a new building at Garda HQ in Dublin this afternoon.
