The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, has said he will not make a decision on creating a new part-time garda reserve until he gets a formal proposal from the Garda Commissioner.

The Minister met with the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors today to discuss the matter after the group raised concerns about the dangers of establishing such a force.
