Poorer children still lagging behind in literacy skills

A study into reading skills at primary-school level has reportedly found that children in poorer areas continue to lag behind others despite efforts to improve the situation.

Reports this morning said the research found that 30% of children in disadvantaged areas had serious reading difficulties, which is largely unchanged since 1999.
