Man charged in connection with armed robbery

A 23-year-old man appeared in court yesterday in Co Louth charged in connection with an armed robbery in Drogheda on Friday.

Charles Moran, of Beechwood Avenue in Drogheda, went before a Special Sitting of Ardee district court in relation to the raid on a shop on Narrow West Street.

The knife-wielding raider got away with a quantity of cash and was also thought to have carried out a car-hijacking later that evening at a filing station on the Dunore Road in the town.

The car was stolen and the passenger prevented from leaving by the culprit, who threatened him with a blood-filled syringe, before driving to Swords in north Dublin.

The passenger then escaped and alerted the Gardaí, who recovered the car and arrested the man early yesterday morning after a search.
