The Health Service Executive is reportedly planning to appoint a panel of experts to investigate the case of Co Wexford woman Evelyn Joel.

The Health Service Executive is reportedly planning to appoint a panel of experts to investigate the case of Co Wexford woman Evelyn Joel.

Mrs Joel, an arthritis and MS sufferer who had been living with her daughter in Enniscorthy, died in hospital last weekend after being admitted with severe malnourishment on New Year's Day.

She had been found in her own bed covered with excrement and with maggots on her body.

She apparently weighed less than four stone when taken to hospital.

The Gardaí and the HSE are both investigating the case and reports this morning said the HSE inquiry would be carried out by a panel of experts including a medical consultant, a healthcare professional with experience in public health nursing and community service and a former deputy health board chief executive.

The reports said the terms of reference for the inquiry and the membership of the investigating team were currently being finalised.
