Fingal Council votes to oppose controversial new prison
Justice Minister Michael McDowell's controversial plans for a new "super-prison" on the outskirts of Dublin have reportedly run into further trouble.
Reports this morning said Fingal County Council had passed a motion last night opposing the facility that the Government plans to build on 200 acres of land in north Co Dublin.
Councillors voted not to assist in the development in any way due to widespread local opposition.
The Government does not need to secure planning permission from Fingal Council, but it is likely to need the council's help in building roads and other infrastructure around the planned prison.
