The Environmental Protection Agency has expressed concern about figures showing that around a quarter of Irish households do not avail of any waste collection services.

In its National Waste Report for 2004, published today, the agency said it wanted local authorities to investigate what happens to the estimated 227,000 tonnes of waste from households that do not avail of a collection service.
