More than 5,000 extra families are set to receive Family Income Supplements this year as part of efforts to combat child poverty, according to Social and Family Affairs Minister Seamus Brennan.

More than 5,000 extra families are set to receive Family Income Supplements this year as part of efforts to combat child poverty, according to Social and Family Affairs Minister Seamus Brennan.

Mr Brennan said increased thresholds that came into force in the New Year meant more than 5,000 additional families would become eligible for the payments.
