A house in Kileely was shot at in a similar style attack at 11pm on Tuesday. Again, nobody was injured, but the house was occupied at the time.

A link between the two shootings has not been confirmed. However, initial inquiries would suggest that they are not connected, according to Garda sources.

Meanwhile, in a separate investigation, gardaí from the south side of the city have released without charge two women who were arrested following Wednesday's night's seizure of €280,000 worth of cocaine.

The women, aged 24 and 26, were arrested following a special surveillance operation at Colbert Station in Limerick after returning from Dublin by train.

They were arrested and detained at Roxboro Garda Station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act, but were released without charge late on Wednesday night.

Senior Garda sources haver described this latest drugs haul as a major blow against one of the country's biggest drugs gangs, which is based on the south side of Limerick city.
