Bus Eireann facing two charges over Navan crash
Gardaí have confirmed that Bus Eireann is to be charged with two minor offences in relation to the crash that killed five schoolgirls in Co Meath earlier this year.
The company is due to be charged under the Road Traffic Act with being the owner of a dangerously defective vehicle and allowing it to be used on a public road.
Reports this morning said the prosecution was being brought because the anti-lock braking system on the bus involved in the crash was not working.
Gardaí are also still considering more serious charges against the bus firm in relation to the crash at Casey's Cross in Kentstown on May 23.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has decided not to charge the driver of the bus with any offence, but a separate investigation by the Health and Safety Authority could see Meath County Council facing sanction in relation to roadworks that were in place at the crash scene.
