CORI challenged to denounce school league tables
The Association of Secondary Teachers has criticised the Conference of Religious in Ireland over the third-level school feeder tables published yesterday.
ASTI opposes the publication of such comparisons because they fail to take account of the fact that some schools "cherry pick" students based on social class or academic ability, while others accept all pupils.
The union says CORI is involved in the running of some of these selective schools and this flies in the face of the group's long-running campaign for social justice.
ASTI general secretary John White has called on the organisation to come out against school league tables and to state clearly that it is wrong to judge schools in such a manner.
