Govt considering increased funding for migrant integration

Minister for Social Affairs Seamus Brennan has said the Government is considering giving more funding to immigrant support groups in an effort to help migrant workers settle in Ireland.

The Immigrant Council of Ireland has reported a 72% increase in queries from immigrants during the past year, with the largest number relating to people seeking information on residency rights.

The council has called for more Government funding to help these people integrate into Irish society.

Mr Brennan said today that the request was under serious consideration given the need for migrant labour to keep the Irish economy growing.
