Woman endures seven-hour bus trip after lung operation
Reports this morning said a 50-year-old woman was transferred from Dublin to Letterkenny General Hospital by minibus rather than ambulance after having a cancerous lung removed.
The woman reportedly had to get off the bus twice to get sick in pub toilets during the seven-hour journey.
Campaigners have claimed the woman, whose surgical wound was still dressed and weeping at the time, was weak, hungry and upset following the incident, but all she was given was a rug.
This morning's reports said the case was the latest of many distressing stories relating to the treatment of cancer patients from the north-west.
An elderly man from the area has reportedly stopped travelling to Dublin for treatment due to the arduous journey involved.
Two women have also reportedly opted for mastectomies rather then travel to Dublin for breast cancer treatment.
