Contaband cigarettes seized at port
Contraband cigarettes worth over €1m were seized in Rosslare Europort after arriving on a ferry from France, it emerged today.
Over 2.5 million Superking brand cigarettes were found in a trailer, hidden in packages labelled as lettuce.
Revenue Officials seized the cigarettes valued at over a €1m, along with an articulated truck and trailer, which had travelled on a ferry from Cherbourg in France over the weekend.
The driver of the truck, a resident of the North, was released following questioning and investigations are continuing.
Revenue Officials said the seizure was as a result of risk profiling of other contraband found.
