Talks arranged in effort to avert An Post strike

The National Implementation Body is due to make a fresh effort today to avert looming strike action at An Post.

The Communications Workers Union is planning to engage in industrial action from Friday in pursuit of pay increases due under the Sustaining Progress deal.

The Labour Court has ruled that employees should agree to reform their work practices in return for the extra money.

However, the CWU has rejected this on the grounds that the Sustaining Progress increases were designed to meet rises in the cost of living and were not supposed to be linked to productivity.

The union's representatives and An Post management have both agreed to hold separate talks with the NIB today in an effort to resolve the matter.
