CWU slams Dempsey’s approach to An Post dispute

The Communication Workers Union has criticised Minister Noel Dempsey's approach to the dispute surrounding pay rises at An Post.

The CWU is planning to engage in industrial action from Friday in pursuit of wage increases due under the Sustaining Progress agreement.

Mr Dempsey has cancelled a planned trip to the US in an effort to broker fresh talks between the union and company management.

However, the CWU said it could not accept him as an independent mediator as he had been vehemently taking the company's side in the dispute.

Spokesman Steve Fitzpatrick said: "I've had literally hundreds of texts and emails and letters and complaints about him being so unbalanced and so biased in favour of the company."
