Man appeals extradition demand in Spanish homicide case
A Co Louth man has challenged an order for his extradition to Spain in connection with the death of his wife at a resort there five years ago.
Spanish police are demanding that 36-year-old Michael Dermot McCardle, from Heynestown in Dundalk, be extradited as they want him on a charge of homicide.
His wife, Kelly-Ann, was killed after she fell from a balcony in Marbella in February, 2000.
Senior counsel for Mr McCardle has appealed the High Court order made in May for his surrender to Spanish authorities.
They claim that his entitlement to a fair trial has been adversely affected because he was not aware that a voluntary statement he made to the Spanish police would not be admissible in a court there.
