The Irish Family Planning Association has called on the Government to directly fund birth control projects in developing countries.

The call follows a report from the United Nations which says global poverty will not be reduced unless family planning and reproductive health is put at the centre of development policy.

The UN Population Fund said women were experiencing higher levels of poverty in the developing world due to poor reproductive health and a lack of family planning education.
