Four due in court in relation to ATM fraud scam

Four people are due to appear in court this morning after they were arrested as part of a garda crackdown on ATM fraud.

The three Romanians and a Belarussian, two of them men and the other two women, were detained during dawn raids in the Bray area yesterday.

They are due before Naas District Court later today.

Gardaí seized a range of equipment during yesterday's raids, including cameras, skimmers, a card-making machine, a large quantity of credit and bank cards, as well as €20,000 in cash.

The gang involved in the fraud is believed to have been one of the most organised working in Ireland in recent years.

The scam involves attaching a device to bank machines to read details from people's ATM cards so they can be duplicated at a later date.

A tiny camera is also attached to the ATM so the fraudsters can see the customer entering his or her PIN number.
