Opposition seeks inquiry into purchase of prison site

The Opposition parties have called for an official inquiry by the Auditor General into the decision by the Government to purchase a new prison site.

The site, at Thornton Hall in north Co Dublin, will cost the taxpayer €30m.

Joe Costello of the Labour Party has said that the amount of the payment is "worrying" and there are questions to be answered about the manner in which the money was spent.
