No second body found following exhumation of grave in Co Laois
Nothing unusual was discovered after the exhumation of a man's body at a graveyard in Ballylyman, Co Laois this afternoon.
Gardaí were investigating reports that a girl's body had been buried in a box on the same site eleven years ago.
Garda spokesperson Superintendent Kevin O’Donaghue said they had been acting on a tip-off which suggested an extra female body had been buried in the grave.
He said they had no reason to believe the information did not come from a reliable source, but they were satisfied that they could now draw a line under this operation.
There had been widespread speculation that the exhumation was linked to ongoing investigations into a number of missing women in the region, however Gardaí said they were not carrying out any further searches in the region.
