TEEU members pass ATGWU pickets at ESB depots

Members of the Technical, Electrical and Engineering Union appear to be heeding their leaders' instructions not to join striking members of the ATGWU at the ESB.

Yesterday, some TEEU members refused to pass pickets mounted by the ATGWU technicians at ESB depots.

The union's leadership, which had instructed them to go to work as normal, issued a statement last night saying this did not mean the TEEU supported the ATGWU's stance.

The striking workers, who make up around half of the ESB's technicians, downed tools yesterday morning as part of a dispute over the use of external contractors by the company.

They claim the use of these contractors is preventing ESB apprentices from getting full-time jobs with the company.
