Three held over woman's disappearance

Two women and a man were being questioned tonight in relation to the disappearance of 19-year-old Fiona Sinnott from Co Wexford more than seven years ago.

Detectives investigating the disappearance of the young woman from Broadway in February 1998 yesterday arrested a man and woman, who are both in their 30s and from the Wexford area. Gardaí confirmed both were later released.

A further three people – all from the Wexford area – were arrested this morning in connection with the investigation.

Two women, who are in their 30s and 50s, and a man, who is in his 30s, were tonight being held at New Ross and Enniscorthy Garda Stations under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone with any information on the disappearance of Ms Sinnott to contact them at New Ross Garda Station in Co Wexford.

Ms Sinnott went missing – leaving behind a baby girl – after leaving a public house near her home at Our Lady’s Island in Co Wexford on February 8, 1998.

In the years since, her family have renewed appeals for information and remained convinced that someone had direct or indirect knowledge as to why she went missing.

Fields and ponds in the area were searched for months after Ms Sinnott disappeared after leaving the public house.

Detectives who examined the case in 1999 as part of Operation Trace – the Garda investigation into the cases of six missing women – were reported to be satisfied there was no link between Ms Sinnott's case and the others.
