The boyfriend of one of the Irish people killed in December's tsunami in southern Asia has been giving evidence to an inquest into her death today.

Barry Murphy told the hearing that he and Eilish Finnegan were having breakfast on a beach on the Thai island of Phi Phi when the massive wave struck on December 26th.

He said they noticed the tide coming in very fast and ran in the opposite direction.

Mr Murphy said Ms Finnegan was running 15 feet ahead of him and that was the last time her saw her alive before he was engulfed by the wave.

He said he identified his girlfriend's body on January 4 after tracing it to a temporary morgue with the aid of photographs posted on a website.

The State Pathologist told today's inquest that Ms Finnegan's death was most likely due to drowning.
