Wives of Rossport Five meet them face-to-face
The wives and families of the Rossport Five today met the five men face-to-face for the first time in weeks.
The men appeared before the High Court today where their case was adjourned until October 4.
They are now in their 71st day in Cloverhill Prison for their opposition to the Shell gas pipeline.
Kathleen O' Seighin, whose husband Micheal is one of the men who was imprisoned, spoke outside the court today.
“It’s very important to meet them because there's a glass between us and Cloverhill. But it’s very emotional too. It’s very tiring as well. But it'll be worth it hopefully,” she said.
The five were imprisoned 10 weeks ago for refusing to obey an injunction ordering them not to obstruct work on the Corrib gas pipeline.
They believe the high-pressure structure of the pipeline poses an unacceptable risk to the population of north Co Mayo.
The men’s supporters today vowed to continue their campaign against the pipeline, despite the difficulties being faced by the jailed men and their families.
They also said the men had no intention of giving an undertaking to obey the court injunction, a move that would end their long-running incarceration.
