Gardaí on high alert after flare-up in Traveller feud

Gardaí in Longford are on high alert today following a flare-up in a feud between Traveller families in the midlands earlier this week.

Extra garda resources have been deployed in Longford town, while the garda helicopter is also monitoring the situation.

A blessing of a grave was due to take place in the Ballymacormack cemetery this morning, but was cancelled.

A strong garda presence is still in place at the cemetery, where more than 80 people had gathered for the ceremony.
