Clashes erupt in south Belfast

Police in south Belfast were keeping rival factions apart following clashes earlier this evening.

Officers responded to reports of stone throwing as two groups squared off at lower Donegall Pass, a loyalist area, and Cromac Street and the nationalist lower Ormeau.

Police came under attack as they tried to restore calm to the area.

They were working with community representatives to keep both groups apart.
