Man critical after Derry assault

A man in his 30s is in a critical condition in hospital today after being assaulted in Derry.

Police officers received a report of the assault at 5am and found the victim in the Rosemount area of the city.

He was taken to hospital for treatment for serious head injuries. He is said to be in a critical condition.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said four youths had been seen running from the scene.

The area around Rosemount Avenue and Epworth Street has been sealed off as part of the investigation.

Officers in Strand Road have appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact them.
