Opponents of the Corrib gas pipeline in Co Mayo are planning to picket certain Statoil stations throughout the country today.

The protestors want to highlight the company's involvement in the consortium behind the controversial project.

Local residents fear the planned pipeline poses an unacceptable risk to their health and want gas from the Corrib field pumped to an offshore terminal instead.

Five men from the Rossport area of north Mayo have been in prison for more than nine weeks for refusing to obey an injunction ordering them not to obstruct work on the scheme.
