Man to be charged over Kilrush murder
A man will face charges tomorrow in connection with the death of a 23-year-old girl in west Clare.
The body of Ann Walsh, from Pella Road in Kilrush, was found at the rear of St Senan’s Church in the town last night.
A local man, who was quizzed by gardaí for 12 hours under Section Four of the Non-Fatal Offences Against The Person Act, will appear at a special sitting of Kilrush District Court tomorrow morning.
Gardaí said the 23-year-old was arrested near the scene on Toler Street.
Officers discovered the partially-clothed woman’s body at 11pm last night.
She had neck injuries and it is believed she had been strangled.
Superintendent Joe McKeown, who is leading the murder investigation, earlier appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
“If they heard anything last night between 10pm and 11pm, contact Kilrush Garda Station,” he said.
The scene at the rear of the church is still preserved by forensic officers and a post mortem on Ms Walsh’s body will be carried out tonight at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.
