Woman's body found behind Clare church

Gardaí launched a murder hunt today after a woman’s body was found in Co Clare last night.

The 23-year-old local was found in Toler Street, behind a church in Kilrush town, around 11pm.

It is understood that she may have been strangled.

A man close to the scene was arrested by gardaí and is being held under Section 4 of the Non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act.

The scene has been preserved by forensic officers and a post mortem will be carried out later today at Ennis General Hospital.
