Pipeline protestors to picket Statoil stations tomorrow

Opponents of the Corrib gas pipeline in Co Mayo are reportedly planning to picket certain Statoil stations tomorrow as part of their campaign against the project.

Reports this morning said the protestors were also planning a blockade of the Statoil premises at Dublin's docks on September 10th.

The demonstrations are aimed at forcing Statoil to withdraw from the consortium behind the Corrib project.

Local people believe the planned onshore pipeline poses an unacceptable risk to their health and want gas from the Corrib field to be pumped to an offshore terminal instead.
