Four deaths on roads over the weekend has brought the 2005 toll to 239, it emerged today.

Three motorists and a passenger were killed in three separate collisions in Co Roscommon, Co Clare and south Co Dublin.

Two male drivers victims died in an accident on the outskirts of Castlerea before 10.30pm last night.

One victim was aged 20 while the other was in his 30s.

“The collision involved a motor car and a motor van,” a garda spokesman said.

“The driver of the van was fatally injured and death was pronounced at the scene.

“The driver of the car was removed to Roscommon County Hospital where he later died.”

An 18-year-old girl was also killed in a two-car collision in Ballybrack, Co Dublin at 12.30am today.

One vehicle had a sole occupant while the other had a driver and four passengers.

The victim was one of the passengers and was taken to Loughlinstown Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

A 54-year-old female motorist also died earlier today from injuries received in a collision with a mini-bus at Clarecastle, Co Clare at 4.20pm yesterday.

The victim, who was from nearby Ruan, has not yet been named.

The mini-bus driver was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The 239 toll for 2005 includes 103 motorists, 53 passengers, 40 motorcyclists, 35 pedestrians, five cyclists and three motorcycle pillion passengers.
