PSNI officers attacked during Armagh bomb alert
A PSNI officer was hospitalised and several others were slightly injured last night after coming under attack while dealing with a bomb alert in Lurgan, Co Armagh.
The alert was mounted after a bomb was abandoned in a car outside St Peter's GAA club late last night.
The car had earlier been hijacked at gunpoint on North Street and the driver is believed to have been ordered to take it to nearby Lurgan PSNI station.
While bomb disposal experts were examining the device, PSNI officers securing the scene came under attack from a gang of youths who threw more than 30 petrol bombs, along with bricks, bottles and ball bearings.
The PSNI said the abandoned bomb was "crude but viable".
