Anti-poverty group seeks standardised school uniforms

The Combat Poverty Agency is reportedly calling for the introduction of standardised school uniforms that would be worn by pupils throughout the country.

Reports this morning said the agency believed making these uniforms readily available at major retail outlets would reduce back-to-school expenses for parents on low incomes.

The anti-poverty group said a generic uniform that is widely available would be considerably cheaper than a specific outfit that can only be purchased in certain stores.

It also said standardisation would reduce peer pressure on children to wear expensive branded clothing.
