Govt allocates €10m to Silvermines clean-up
The Government has announced €10m in funding for a clean-up operation around the Co Tipperary village of Silvermines.
The money will be spent on clearing up residues left on the land following past mining activity in the area.
Local residents have expressed concern that their health is being put at risk due to pollution caused by the mining.
They are particularly concerned about a 147-acre dump containing toxic material left over from the mining operation.
