Paedophile stabbed by fellow inmate at Castlerea Prison
A 62-year-old convicted paedophile was treated in hospital overnight after having his neck slashed by a fellow inmate at Castlerea Prison in Co Roscommon yesterday morning.
Christopher Cosgrove, a former Marist Brother and teacher from Claremorris in Co Mayo, was stabbed by a prisoner with a home-made blade in what prison sources said was an unprovoked attack.
He was taken to hospital in Roscommon, where he received a number of stitches and was held for observation overnight.
Cosgrove was jailed for eight years in March on 180 counts of indecent assault against six schoolboys between 1968 and 1977.
