Rossport campaigners plan Statoil protests
The jailed Rossport five this afternoon called for a day of action against Statoil.
Tomorrow's protest is to form part of their campaign against the installation of the Corrib gas pipeline in Mayo.
They said at least 20 of the Norwegian company's stations in Dublin would be picketed. According to the men, Statoil owns 35% of the Corrib gas field.
Campaign spokesperson Eoin O'Broin said double standards were at play: “In Norway, with the vast oil and gas deposits there, refineries are all on platforms out in shallow water, maybe 10 or 20 kilometres from the coast, whereas the plan in the west of Ireland is to build an on-shore refinery which has inherent health, safety and environmental problems.”
