FG says stab-proof vests should be issued to all gardaí
Fine Gael is calling for protective vests to be made available to all gardaí following the stabbing of two officers in north Dublin late last night.
One of the victims is in intensive care after being critically injured in the knife attack, while his colleague also suffered serious, but less severe, stab wounds.
Two Chinese men have been arrested in connection with the incident, which happened when the gardaí called to scene of a reported robbery in Raheny.
Fine Gael TD Jim O'Keeffe said the stabbings highlighted the need for gardaí to be issued with knife-proof vests.
"I want to ensure that members of the Garda Siochana, most of whom are unarmed, have the best protective gear available to them when they go into the front line on our behalf," he said.
