No reports of Irish victims in London bombings

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it has not received any reports so far that Irish people were among those killed or wounded in yesterday's London bombings.

However, the Irish Ambassador to Britain, Daithi O Ceallaigh, has warned that it could take several days before the identities and nationalities of the victims are confirmed as the priority is to treat the injured.

People worried about Irish friends or relatives who may have been caught up in the blasts are being urged to contact one of two phone lines.

From Ireland, the number is 1800 242 548, while people in the UK can contact 0207 201 2501.

Meanwhile, Irish people are also being urged to exercise caution about travelling to London and to allow extra time for any journeys due to increased security at ports and airports across the UK.
