Teen dies as stolen car crashes in Cork

A 14-year-old boy died and two other teenagers were injured in a crash involving a stolen car in Cork city today.

A 14-year-old boy died and two other teenagers were injured in a crash involving a stolen car in Cork city today.

Gardaí said the car went out of control after it hit a barrier and trees on Monaghan Road, close to the city centre, at about 12.30am.

The Honda Civic vehicle had been stolen a short time earlier at nearby Ballintemple. The boy who died was from the Mahon area of the city.

The second teenager was seriously injured in the crash and the third suffered minor injuries. They were being treated at Cork University Hospital.

The scene has been technically examined and a garda investigation is under way. Officers at Blackrock Garda Station have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
