Youth Council slams Revenue move against first-time buyers
The National Youth Council has criticised the Revenue Commissioners' move to levy stamp duty on first-time buyers who get significant financial help from their parents.
The Revenue has said that first-time buyers whose parents are mentioned on mortgage applications do not qualify for stamp duty relief.
The Youth Council said the move flew in the face of advice from the Government's National Economic and Social Council, which recommended measures to help first-time buyers acquire the money needed for deposits.
