Group calls for reform of immigrant policy

The system to deal with asylum seekers is being described as ad hoc and unfair by the Residents Against Racism group who have called for reform of immigrant policy.

The Group is holding a protest in Dublin today against what it calls the "racist policies" of the Government.

Spokeswoman Rosanna Flynn says recent remarks by the Justice Minister Michael McDowell were offensive and insulting to non-nationals here.

“The treatment of migrant workers and asylum seekers here is going from bad to worse,” she said.

“The Minister for Justice has made some shocking statements about asylum seekers having ‘cock-and-bull’ stories, talking about ‘bogus’ asylum seekers,” said Ms Flynn.

She said that as far as her organisation is concerned Mr McDowell is a “Bogus Minister for Justice”.
