Figures highlight high detention costs

Figures released by the Department of Education have shown it costs up to €368,000 annually to keep a young offender in a detention school.

Reports this morning said the figures showed that it cost an average of €368,000 to keep such young people incarcerated each year. This is four times the cost of keeping an adult in prison.
